Saint George Needs More Prosphoro Bakers!

Beloved in Christ!

Denise and Gregory and I are settling into our new surroundings here in Prescott, thanks in no small part to the love and fellowship you’ve shown us already! We even have our little puppy enrolled in “puppy classes” which seems odd.. she seems to have the knack for being a rambunctious puppy down pat!

We have a need, beloved, for bakers willing to make loaves of Prosphoro for our divine liturgies! This simple and yet powerful offering (the very meaning of the term itself!) will allow St. George to enjoy the robust schedule of services we anticipate celebrating in the weeks, months, and years ahead. And as the baker and offerer of the loaves, you may submit with the loaves two lists of names (one for your living loved ones and another for your deceased loved ones) to be commemorated on the paten during the prayers of preparation. This is a beautiful way to remember a significant event like one’s Name Day or the anniversary of the passing of someone dear to you.

In the very near future we will be holding a prosphoro-baking class (any volunteers for a host kitchen?) but to help get you started you may consult the http://www.prosphora.org/ website which contains virtually everything anyone would ever want to know about baking bread for Holy Communion. And as a reminder, we will have three weekday liturgies on the 25th, 26th, and 27th of July so the need is an immediate one.

Here’s a tip from my “Metropolis-Youth-Camp-opp-we-don’t-have-prosphoro-for-tomorrow’s-liturgy” experience! In the absence of a bread seal (which you can also order from the website above) you can trace out the seal with toothpick holes!

May the Lord richly bless your families as we worship All-Holy, Good, and Life-Creating Trinity in Three Persons!
