New Chancellor Appointed for Metropolis of San Francisco
The Metropolis of San Francisco is pleased to announce the appointment of V. Rev. Archimandrite Apostolos Koufallakis as the Chancellor beginning November 1, 2011. Since 2004 Archimandrite Apostolos has been serving as Dean of Saint Demetrios Cathedral in Astoria, NY. In addition to a very large and active community with many ministries, this parish also has the largest parochial school in the Archdiocese for pre-kindergarten, elementary, middle and high school grades with an enrollment of over 800 students. Orthodox Christian churches are under attack yet again throughout the world. Please do remember our brothers and sisters in Libya, who are in a particularly precarious position currently. The historic church of St. George located in Libya, in Tripoli, dating back to 1647 was ransacked. The church is the oldest Orthodox church in North Africa. Celebrating 110 Years of Korean Orthodoxy
Korean Orthodox Church On 29-30 May 2010 celebrations dedicated to 110 anniversary of Orthodoxy in Korea were held in Seoul. The festivities were organized by the Korean metropolia of the Constantinopolitan Patriarchate. With the blessing of His Holiness Kirill, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, a delegation from Russian Orthodox Church headed by the Archbishop Veniamin of Vladivostok and Primorye [Coastland] came to participate in the festivities. RI Parish Bells Stolen: Now Recovered
UPDATE: BELLS RECOVERED Six brass and bronze bells stolen from the Dormition of the Virgin Mary Church here were recovered Thursday, April 22, 2010 after two scrap metal yards tipped off local police. The largest bell, weighing between 1200 and 1500 pounds, had been cut into several pieces, while the other bells’ inscriptions had been defaced in an obvious effort to conceal their origins.
